

In 2015, the Whitecaps faithful were rewarded with some better play and the team made one of its best MLS Cup runs to date. The Vancouver Southsiders often can be heard cheering on the Blue and White, and the franchise regularly sells out their season tickets. However, fan loyalty stayed strong, and their supporters’ groups are still known as some of the best in the league. Fans were growing frustrated, and they also failed to make the final of the Canadian Championship. The 2014 season marked the return of the Caps to the playoffs, but they stumbled again in the first knockout round.

Despite Brazilian striker Camilo scoring a franchise-record 22 goals in the 2013 season, Vancouver failed to qualify for the 2013 playoffs. However, the club was eliminated in the first knockout round, and fans would have to wait to see their team get this first playoff win. They failed to make the playoffs in their first season, but they improved in their second and finished fifth in the Eastern Conference. Toronto may have been the first Canadian MLS team, but Vancouver had much more early success than their countrymen. The Caps won their first MLS game against Canadian rivals Toronto FC. They also hold the record as the first Canadian team to compete in the MLS playoffs.

Vancouver began play in 2011 as an expansion team, and quickly became a playoff regular. The Vancouver Whitecaps carry the legacy of two past soccer teams who have used the Whitecap name in the city.
